Do you need an apostille from the United States?
United States is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention and any official document from this country requires an apostille from the Secretary of State to be eligible for use elsewhere.
In the United States apostille requirements are set by relevant state authorities and very significantly from one jurisdiction to another. For instance, in states like California and Massachusetts, all notarized documents must have proper (long form) jurat or acknowledgement to be eligible, whereas in other states only signature and name of the notary is needed.
It is important to note that beyond the states, there are territories and possessions which also issue US Apostille for use abroad.
